Over 6.8 million cancer treatments, valued at Rs 13,000 crore ($1.56 billion USD) have been provided through India's national health insurance program. Notably, 76% of these treatments were delivered in rural areas.
+
The program covers a wide range of cancers, including breast, oral, and cervical and offers more than 200 treatment packages.
+
For individuals living below the poverty line, financial assistance of up to $18,000 is available through a government cancer patient fund. Additionally, affordable medications are accessible through government-run pharmacies, where generic cancer drugs are sold at 50–80% less than the cost of branded alternatives.
+
To further improve access, the government plans to establish 200 district-level cancer daycare centers in 2025–26. So far, 19 regional cancer institutes and 20 advanced care centers have been set up nationwide to provide specialized treatment.
