Nike Donates Over 30,000 Shoes Exclusively Designed for Frontliners Fighting Against Covid-19

The outbreak of the coronavirus may have caused a massive crisis across the globe affecting health, economy and other aspects of our lives. However, this pandemic has also been a venue for people to show compassion and kindness and humanity.

From individuals and families to communities, organizations and big companies. People go out of their way to spread kindness and uplift spirits in ways both large and small.

Athletic apparel giant Nike recently went the extra mile to help frontline healthcare workers fighting against Covid-19.

After making the first shoe designed specifically for healthcare workers, Nike Air Zoom Pulse, the shoe giant also donated more than 30,000 pairs to medical personnel, according to the Good News Network.

On November 19, Nike designed this shoe exclusively for frontliners working on 12-hour shifts, doing their extremely demanding jobs.

According to Nike, they describe the shoe as “first shoe designed for the healthcare athlete, an everyday hero.”

“Fit, cushioning and traction systems work together to secure the foot in hospital conditions — and all solutions were finalized in tandem with considerations from medical workers at Oregon Health & Science University and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon.”

To help distribute these shoes across the globe, the sportswear company partners with nonprofit Good360 in the United States and similar local organizations in Europe. All these efforts to show appreciation and thank healthcare workers in the battle against the coronavirus.

“Health systems are balancing a number of priorities right now, which is why we’re teaming up with our longtime nonprofit partner Good360. It specializes in efficiently distributing product donations to organizations that help people facing disasters and other challenges,” Jorge Casimiro, Chief Social & Community Impact Officer, told Forbes.

Some of the medical workers who receive these donations are those working in the US veteran’s hospitals as well as those in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City and Memphis. In Europe, the shoes go to hospitals in Berlin, Barcelona, Milan, London, Belgium and Paris.

The shoes are designed to adjust to all hospital conditions. They are easy to wear and get off and are made of materials that make cleaning also easier.

But Nike isn’t only giving away footwear. They’re also distributing more than 100,000 pieces of apparel items such as socks, bags, water bottles, among others. The company and Nike Foundation also committed more than $25 million to fund their covid-19 response efforts in communities around the world.

The world we live in now may not be the kind of world we’d hoped for. But certain things remain the same – things like kindness, humanity and compassion.
